(On the best vacations, you will find that dates and times no longer matter.) By the way, my diary notes that I had completely skipped Wednesday's entries.
"We drove through countryside that, for the most part, was utterly devoid of human blight, a rarity in this world. I doubt any such place exists in America anymore, We stopped in Memel, at a tiny gasthouse, for a lovely lunch of delicate and delicous finger sandwiches, served with tea and coffee in their tidy, tidy garden, complete with beautiful white geese that strolled the well manicured grass.
All throughout, the meals and the accommodations have been exemplary. Joe and Erwin have gone the extra mile in all cases to make sure our every comfort has been seen to.
Actually, I cannot believe how much we're getting for how little I feel we've paid. I feel a little guilty on occasion!
I am writing this on the porch of our bungalow in the Malala Village, owned by a a nice couple named Jane and Pete. They live here and open the cottages to travelers, as I understand. Our room is lovely and secluded and we are preparing to journey to the Indian Ocean today."
